Alberto Huayta (“Beto”)
(16 years old) - is the half brother of Erwing Luna, a former resident. He came in December, 2006 to the Casa Ignacio. His mother died when he was five years old and, like Erwing, was raised by an aunt (his mother’s sister). Life for poor people is difficult and when there are “other” children who have lost a parent, relatives try to raise them, in addition to their own children. As in the case of Alan Francisco, Erwing and Alberto’s aunt found it impossible to raise both her own family (while working) and also her two nephews. Unlike Erwing, who was placed in an orphanage, Alberto was not. He continued to live with his aunt without much control. Before joining us, he lived with his natural father (who also has another family) and he was subjected to much abuse. As a result of being passed around from relative to relative, he was practically left to fend for himself. He is a nice kid, very anxious to do something with his life and now has a chance. He is very bright and did well in his first year of school with us. He will enter his fourth year of high school in 2008. He is also studying English. |
